Temple Emanuel is the only Reform congregation in the greater Roanoke area. Founded in 1889, Temple Emanuel represents the historical traditions of Reform Judaism as well as an innovative, creative approach to Jewish prayer and education. The theme of this Temple is to be found in its name, Emanuel, which is Hebrew for "God is with us". Our Temple has adopted this name, symbolic of the mission of the Jewish Religion... the calling forth of the faith in God and the fulfillment of God's purpose. Our programs include services, adult and family education, and many social events. Guests are always welcome.

Temple Emanuel is heir to over 110 years of tradition. Today, our Congregation is vibrant with song and prayer. Our attendance at all worship services is up more than 40% over the last two years. Our membership is growing and now exceeds 210 families. We continue to be proud of the new ways we learn to teach and to reach our congregants.

The growth of our Congregation has led to improvements in the quality of Jewish life we offer our members. We enjoy a Cantorial Soloist at each of our High Holiday Services and we ensure that our Torah Scrolls are maintained on a regular basis. Continuing education classes for adults, and the Jewish Community Religious School for our children meet the educational needs of the Congregation, and by underwriting the cost of scholar in residence events, we continually enrich ourselves with the richness of varied Jewish educational experiences.

TEMPLE MEMBERS: Always check the "What's New" page FIRST and on a regular basis to keep apprised of changes in the schedule, and the latest info on classes and events. Find out when the Jewish Holidays are through the year 2006 by consulting the chart lower down on the What's New page, or by clicking on the "Jewish Holidays" link to the left.
