Membership

Want to join? No audition required! Just an ability to carry a tune and a desire to sing.
You must be age 15 or older.

What follows are excerpts from our mission statement:

Priority as to membership will be given in the following order:

Firstly, the chorus will be open to members of the Temple Emanuel congregation, subject only to issues of vocal balance among SATB sections as determined by the director.

Secondly, the chorus will accept membership from Jews outside the Temple provided that such members are a musical asset as determined by the director and that, in the event of a schedule conflict, such members agree to conform to the scheduling and attendance requirements of the chorus.

Lastly, subject to issues of vocal balance as determined by the director, the chorus may accept any other person (age 15 or older) provided that such a person's participation is based on musical interest and does not involve a non-Jewish religious/political agenda. Once accepted, such a member must conform to the schedule/attendance requirements of the chorus.

All prospective members, regardless of affiliation and with the advance permission of the director, are permitted to audit a rehearsal. However, all prospective members must meet with the director and Rabbi prior to acceptance into the chorus and active participation in rehearsals.

Chorus Member Duties

Chorus members will make every effort to attend rehearsals on a regular basis, arriving promptly at the designated starting time. Members will come prepared with a pencil and eraser to record any miscellaneous notes or changes to the sheet music per director's instruction. In case of absence, a member will be responsible for obtaining any such notes and changes from an attending chorus member singing the same part prior to the next rehearsal/performance. Members should be aware of the limited rehearsal time and are requested to exercise restraint when discussing matters unrelated to the music at hand.

Members with young children requiring supervision are responsible for arrangements for such supervision outside of the chorus's actual rehearsal/performance space. (It is suggested that such members notify the Temple office for options.)

When asked by the director to review/practice a section of music or listen to a portion of a rehearsal tape, members will make a concerted effort to do so. Members will likewise make every effort possible to attend every performance/ service and should inform the director of any schedule conflicts as soon as possible.
